Match Summary - DSW so near yet
Sofiar against
Bulgaria |
DSW lined up with a more familiar
look (much to the relief of the opposition) after last
weeks excellent performance.
The early exchanges were balanced
with both sides trying to warm up in the near zero
temperature. A couple of early shots by Dave Dodd were
matched at the other end by a couple of saves from Paul
but neither side really looked like breaking through
until DSW made their first change bringing on Dow Snr.
to replace the industrious Bob Williams.
This change unsettled the midfield
structure just long enough for Bulgaria to break through
after a smart one two giving them three on one at the
back, the resulting shot was well parried by Paul but
bounced agonizingly over the line before Paul could
scoop it away 0-1.
The rest of the first half was even
but with DSW having the better chances however some high
and wide shooting and a failure to find the free man in
front of goal resulted in turning around with a one goal
deficit.
In the second half DSW had the
majority of the chances including a number of clear cut
opportunities, a combination of the woodwork (a post
from DD and two crossbars from Adam) and a good
goalkeeping performance kept DSW out until a neat cross
field combination involving Dave and Adam found Dow Snr.
in space and he finished coolly through the goalkeeper’s
legs.
This left about ten minutes to go,
DSW continued to press and looked the more likely to
register the winner, Adam broke away only to see his
shot bounce down off the crossbar without crossing the
line. It wasn’t to be and the game finished a hard
fought but very fairly played 1-1 draw.
Overall DSW played with a structure
and should have run out winners against decent
opposition.
