Dear reader, please
picture the scene, it's a cold, very wet evening.
Winter still has a grip, and ordinary decent folk
would want to be back at home with their loving
families. But having given their oath of allegiance
to the team, loyalty to the cause wins out.
Player 1 - 'Whose the opposition this week
then?'
Player 2 - 'Tasmanian Devils.'
Player 1 - 'Aren't they top of the league?'
Player 2 - 'Sure are, and play sparkling
football to boot.'
Player 1 - 'Didn't they beat us on Cup
competition night?'
Player 2 - 'Sure did, they played very well
that night.'
Player 1 - 'In that case we'll need the full
team turning out to-nght, or it's going to be amassaca'
Player 2 - 'We've got six.'
Player 1 - 'Whose not turning out and I hope
they've got a better excuse than say a jolly to
Europe?'
Player 2 - 'Funny thing that, no James, no
Andy and no Mark. Allegedly gone snorting white
powder, or skiing. It's very important team build
management thing apparently, and every one's doing
it.'
Player 1 - 'But it's their *#^%ing
team!!!!'
We take our
positions, no subs, unlike the Tasmanian Devils who
have the luxury of one and are able to rotate their
players. The area of play is fairly middle of the
park in the early stages, but the first goal of the
evening comes from the left foot of Bob Williams, a
fiercely struck shot, hit on the run that hits the
inside of the right hand post and rebounds behind
the keeper into the left hand side goal netting.
Following on fairly
quickly, our second comes from Adam Dow, who places
a nicely struck shot to the left of the keeper. It's
2 - 0. What a great start. What a great team. All we
need to do is keep it simple and the win is ours.
Second half, right from the restart,
the Tasmanian Devils score with an individual effort
that removes the two goal cushion. Fairly soon after
that though David Dodd on a solo run
brilliantly blasts the ball high into their net and
it's 3 - 1.
We now see the sort
of play that have take the Devils to the top of
league. It's defending time for DSW. Pressure from
the Devils is relentless, and DSW find it difficult
to link up to build any sort attack. Apart from
occasional long balls the play is basically in DSW's
half, with Neil and Richard continually spoiling
attacks. The long shots are dealt with by Paul or
simple not on target.
But the Devils score,
it's 3 - 2, and they have the confidence to carry on
and take the points.
The Referee is
constantly being asked 'How long?', but DSW hold out
for the full time whistle. Top result all round.
Andy, James and Mark will be chuffed!!!!
