Match Summary - DSW sleigh
Grappenhall |
Following on from the 6-1 mauling earlier in the season,
DSW sent out a patchwork side to face an experienced
Grappenhall side.
With two trialists in the side, DSW got off to a flier,
with total football from the back to the front giving
the ageing Grappenhall defence no chance. A neatly
worked corner saw trialist Gareth Roberts finish coolly
with the keeper stranded. No sooner had the game
re-started than David Dodd went through one-on-one with
the rotund keeper, keeping his nerve, and with the aid
of a deflection off the keeper, he doubled the sides
advantage.
Bob was plying his trade between the sticks and showed
his agility with a fine tip on to the post to keep the
clean sheet in tact. It was Bob's efficient distribution
from the back that enabled DSW to keep possession and
play some of the neatest football of the season. Just
before the break, it was 3-0. A great move saw Adam Dow
head neatly into second trialist, Simon Keenan, whose
shot was deflected high into the air only to be met be a
crashing volley from Dodd. DSW at their very best.
After the break it was more of the same with more of the
same free flowing attacking football. Neil James
provided solid support at the back, and was unfortunate
not to score with a great low drive. Frustration crept
in to the Grappenhall side, with the tenacious Dow on
the receiving end of ‘big Roger’s’ scything challenges.
The game was wrapped up with 10 minutes to go, a quick
corner and first time drive by Dodd saw the hat-trick
complete and all three points wrapped up. The only
negative was a lapse of concentration at the back with
DSW pushing for more, which left a one-on-one against
Bob, to which he had no chance.
Overall, DSW finish the year on a high and will look to
take their form into the New Year and attempt to reach
the higher echelons of the leagues.
