After
last weeks defeat, DSW were scheduled for a return
fixture with Cobden. Our experience to date would have
suggested that after our poor display in the Cup, we had
a handle on how to deal with these after our follow up
fixture where we turned them over 6 – 1.
On the
night each team played with one rolling substitute,
weather conditions considered good for football (and
acceptable to a certain person). The game commences
under the auspices of a new referee.
The
first half is a fiercely contested campaign, with Cobden
displaying their preference for trickery and DSW going
for the more direct (attacking) football.
No team
manages to score in the first half, but on reflection it
must be said that DSW had the greater number of chances,
with good, accurate shots on goal coming from virtually
all DSW outfield players, but frustrated by the agile
display of the Cobden goalkeeper, an obvious candidate
for the their man of the match. Neil being particularly
frustrated when his fine strike caught the inside of the
bar and post - the ball shot across the face of goal but
didn't cross the line.
Half
time arrives but the DSW performance fails to match up
with the attempted strikes at goal achieved during the
first half.
Best
chance to score and take the lead in the game, came as
three DSW attackers find them selves free of markers in
the opposition half, a forward chipped pass is not
efficiently controlled with, by which time the defenders
have caught up, won possession and set up an attack
brought to a stop by a foul (lucky not to receive a
booking for that one). From the free kick, a smartly
struck shot hits Paul’s post and gives them the lead.
Second
and final goal of the game came Cobden’s way after their
‘magnetic’ attacker attracts three defenders to him, and
squares a ball to the unmarked Cobden attacker who
places his shot at leisure in the back of the net.
So ends
this report on a game that gave no pleasure to any one,
including the reviewer.
More
goals next week boys!!
The
objective of the exercise is not to win but avoid James
asking for a match report to be written.
