In the last game of the
first half of the season and the first on the larger
Sankey pitches dsw fc were looking to go through the
first half of the season unbeaten for the first time in
their history. They managed it but only just, hanging on
at the end for a 4-4 draw after being in control for the
vast majority of the game.
A reformatted team saw Bob
Williams taking over in goal from Florida Paul Richards
and Andy Dodd returning from Saskia house building
duties. The seven thirty kick off meant very warm pitch
temperatures holding at well over 30 degrees.
dsw fc started well and
scored early through a good move and a great finish from
Neil James. dsw fc were moving the ball around well on
the larger playing surface and restricting the
Hurricanes to long range shots (albeit fiercely struck
ones from their strong centre forward). The first real
strike on target the Hurricanes managed unfortunately
squeezed under the diving Bob and struggled over the
line for 1-1.
dsw fc responded with two
good moves both initiated by Mark Watts and finished off
by the Dodd brothers (1 each) to move into a comfortable
3-1 lead. The play remained balanced for the rest of the
half and either side could have added to their total,
with dsw fc on balance looking the more likely. The
other goal of the first half however went the other way
with a Hurricanes break and cross being well finished by
an incoming player. 3-2 to dsw fc at half time.
The second half pace
dropped a little as the heat told and remained
relatively even. Mid way through the second half a Dave
Dodd solo run from half way and a finish to match put
dsw fc into a 4-2 lead and the position looked
comfortable. At this point dsw fc relaxed a little and
began to move away from “the simple stuff”. The
Hurricanes heads were down but this changed when a well
hit long range shot sneaked past Bob at the post (he
thought it was going wide). The Hurricanes now pushed on
and dsw fc created more chances, having already missed a
series at 4-2 up. However another defensive error
resulted in a well struck equalizer just before time.
Overall a result that dsw
fc should be disappointed with as there were
opportunities to make the game safe and a few of the
goals were avoidable, however a hard working performance
in the heat from everyone and dsw fc remain top and
unbeaten this season. |
