Another bright summers
evening and table topping dsw fc faced a potentially
stronger test against third placed Magnum PI.
As expected the game was
competitive, but dsw fc proved the stronger continuing
their strong start to the season. dsw fc created the
early chances but struggled to put the ball away, with
James Dow wasting good opportunities and both Adam Dow
and Bob Williams hitting the woodwork.
Paul Richards was largely
untroubled. Mark Watts and Neil James continued to
comfortably marshal defence allowing Andy Dodd and Bob
to creatively exploit midfield. Andy's early creativity
was rewarded with his substitution after 6 minutes.
The breakthrough came in
the second half with a very clever through ball by Neil
splitting the Magnum defence and leaving Adam with a
clear one on one situation with the keeper which he won
- 1 -0. The second goal followed a period of continued
dsw fc pressure and a long roll in by Bob Williams was
crashed into the Magnum goal by the onrushing Neil
James.
The game continued with
dsw fc continuing to press Magnum into their own half
and Andy Dodd continuing to avoid the ball having any
contact with his hair. Despite the obvious impediment
caused by trying to preseve his L'oreal contract Andy
played a strong game linking defence and attack well.
Magnum had few chances until the closing minutes when
Andy presented Magnum with a simple one on one against
Paul Richards: Paul as usual spread himself across the
goal and the striker shot feebly wide.
The final score 2-0 leaves
dsw fc clear at the top of the table. dsw fc continue to
play good football and might even get promoted in a
season of record breaking. The records so far:
-
Longest unbeaten run
to the start of season
-
Most minutes without
conceding a goal now estimated at 78 minutes!
-
Longest run of games
without a goal: Andy 11 (excluding cup); closely
followed by Bob at 10; yes I know Paul is over 50
games without a goal
Records that look set to
fall:
-
6 matches undefeated
(record is 7)
-
5 league matches
undefeated (record is 6)
