Another convincing win for DSW, and a record fastest
goal from Williams Snr., was marred by late lapses in
concentration and a touchline bust up between midfield
gem Pricey and the manager.
Within 27 seconds Bob Williams had put DSW in the lead;
scoring from distance with a precision drive into the
bottom left hand corner. The keeper was too slow to get
down to the well struck shot and DSW were on their way.
DSW settled back after the early breakthrough
and their play suggested that they might try and hold on
to their lead. But, within 2 minutes NFC were level
after a defensive mix up allowed the NFC striker to
travel towards goal unmarked and score; 1-1.
Back on level terms NFC sat back and allowed
DSW to dictate the game. Bob, confidence high from his
early success, secured the John Smiths “Ave-It” award
sending a long range effort sailing into the stands but
with few other chances created the game remained level
for the next 15 minutes.
It should have been 2-1 on 17 minutes with Big
Dave Dodd through unmarked after a glorious pass from
the increasingly impressive Steveo. Despite his recent
scoring record, Big Dave showed his immaturity and
lashed the ball wide; the keeper not even forced to make
a save.
An unscheduled substitution was then made by
the manager causing anger from Pricey who carried on his
protests into half time.
Remarkably the second half started like the
first; DSW scoring within 20 seconds of the restart with
an individual goal from Steveo. Weaving his way through
the NFC defence he unleashed a sublime shot, curled into
the top right hand corner; 2-1.
With Pricey back on, making his point to the
manager with some beautiful one touch football in the
middle of the park, and Neil providing a strong
defensive arm to the team, DSW started to move up a
gear. Indeed, it was Neil moving up from defence for a
corner which almost brought the third; a well struck
shot denied only by a late block in front of goal.
Stuart and Adam were causing havoc down both flanks
despite taking a number of knocks from frustrated NFC
defenders.
Stuart got the third after some excellent
interplay down the right, lashing the ball in from a
tight angle and he added the fourth soon after.
As is customary for the DSW team, the second
goal was conceded late on; Paul was left exposed and
this time he couldn’t keep out the NFC attack; 4-2. The
score sheet never tells the true story of the
goalkeeping performance, as yet again Paul had denied a
number of chances for the opposition who were
continually let in by DSW who collectively move higher
up the pitch as the game and their lead progresses!
The manager already unhappy with the late opposition
goal was left bemused as Pricey substituted himself and
we are left wondering if this was the last time we’ll
see Pricey pull on the DSW jersey?
