Match Summary - DSW catch NFC cold |
On another winters night at
Broomfields a late pitch inspection allowed the game to
go ahead despite temperatures dropping to freezing
point. Team manager Dow had selection headaches for the
first time in weeks with a bumper squad to choose from.
Harsh decisions had to be made and Adam Dow and Mark
Watts were left on the sidelines as the manager favoured
the defensive power of Dodd and Harrison combined with
the attacking guile of Dow Snr. and David Dodd.
This decision was looking suspect
when within a minute Richard Harrison did his impression
of Bambi on ice on an admittedly slippery pitch which
allowed a fleet footed striker clean through on goal
1-0. At this point Andy Dodd arrived from sitting in his
car after warming himself up on the car heater for
longer than most.
A period of pressure from NFC
followed and the score was kept at 1-0 by a couple of
quality saves from Paul Richards who used the conditions
well to get down to save a well struck shot to his
left.
In the eighth minute Andy Dodd was
introduced for Neil James sending his first touch
skywards but on this occasion it did come down inside
the boundary fencing.
A break from NFC was stopped by a
good tackle from Harrison which led to the first quality
move from DSW ending with an Andy Dodd like shot from
James Dow which came down with a full snow cap on it.
DSW were now starting to play some
football and the equaliser followed from Dave Dodd
finishing well on the turn 1-1. DSW now began to press
and a break from Dow Snr. ended with an altercation with
an NFC defender, the referee had to intervene and the
result was a yellow card for NFC and a ticking off for
Dow. At this point the Assistant Manager took Dow off
for a six minute breather to cool down.
This substitution took a bit of the
engine room away and NFC pressed strongly eventually
dispossessing both Bob and Richard to score a second,
2-1 down at half time.
The second half started in the same
way with three DSW defenders dragged to the ball leaving
a straightforward finish for the free man 3-1 to NFC. At
this point DSW had another good spell and Bob drove an
excellent goal into the bottom left corner of the net to
give some hope at 3-2.
DSW went straight to sleep from the
kick off and a quick free kick found a runner who was
not picked up, a good finish and it was back to two
behind inside a minute 4-2. At this point it certainly
was NoFChance
for DSW.
However DSW now had their best
spell of the game, with Andy Dodd causing confusion
Peter Crouch style upfront both Dave Dodd and Neil
benefited from the distraction with Dave scoring two
late goals to complete his hatrick and produce a 4-4
result. These two goals were split by a key save with
his nose by Paul that brought colour to everyones
cheeks. Overall a decent result with every man on the
pitch having a reasonable claim for DSW MOM.
