Match Summary - DSW not
dancing to Pele's Samba beat |
An
unchanged team for DSW today, with David Dodd making his
first start on the bench.
The
pitch positively glowed in the cold sunshine as Pele’s
Men kicked off.
In the
opening minutes a casual roll-in from Pele’s Men nearly
let Adam Dow in, the young striker was unable to get
much pace on his shot which was comfortably saved. As in last
week’s game Bob Williams also started on fire with an
early shot at the opposition goal.
David
Dodd then came on for Wattsy. Almost immediately after
the substitution Paul
Richards was forced into a save pushing the ball against the bar,
the ball came down on the line, but without the
assistance of a Russian linesman the referee
acknowledged it wasn’t a goal. David and Adam then
combined superbly but the shot again was comfortably
saved.
Dow
Senior came on for Andy and “Andy Johnson” lookalike
came on for Pele’s Men the combination of substitutions
proved fatal for DSW. Dow Senior, who was being a bit
of an arse, took too long on the ball and was robbed by
Andy Johnson who coolly slotted the ball past Richards.
DSW
tried their best to force opportunities playing the more
attractive football for the remainder of the first half
and the second half. Pele’s Men settled into their game
plan leave players at the back and “hoof” the ball long
towards Andy Johnson, it was just like Liverpool. DSW’s
substitutions meant that the threat of Johnson was now
being comfortably managed by Andy and Neal.
DSW
created chances in the second half and in the dying
seconds Adam’s pace again caught Pele’s Men on a roll-in
but again he was just unable to get enough on his shot,
it was simply not to be. In the end, DSW were out-foxed
on the day. It wasn't meant to happen, now, was it?
Especially with the referee calling full-time at least
three minutes short! So much for all that crowing over
last week’s victory...
DSW
came into this match with two records: they had never
failed to score and they had never failed to concede.
They left this match with one of those records intact,
hopefully not for long.
