Match Summary - DSW stroll past
Wanderers |
Despite the scoreline this was a
comfortable victory for DSW who played with a settled
formation.
Paul Richards, passing a late
fitness test was rarely tested in the opening 10 minutes
of this encounter, DSW were too quick to the ball and
too well organised for PTW. DSW took the lead after 5
minutes when Adam Dow lashed a ball into the roof of the
net. DSW continued to press and a few minutes later Mark
Watts scored his personal goal of the season: picking up
the ball inside his own half Mark surged forward ,
evaded tackles and slotted the ball low past the PTW
keeper into the bottom left corner.
DSW continued to dominate in the
first half with strong individual performances from all
team members. Andy Dodd and Bob Williams both powered
shots over the bar and out of Broomfields Stadium.
Andy's fine effort prompting the referee to say "Can't
you stay in defence.. somebody's got to and get that
ball now!".
Paul Richards was untroubled in the
first half although he did have to watch one shot crash
against his crossbar.
Halftime arrived with DSW two goals
ahead and the second half began with DSW even more
dominant. Neal James started his own show putting in
three shots on goal in the first three minutes, this was
followed by more efforts from Adam, Bob and Mark. But
DSW failed to add to their tally. PTW had to wait 5
minutes before they had their first strike on goal in
the second half but Paul comfortably saved.
The goal of the match arrived
midway through the second half with all DSW outfield
players involved in an impressive build up which saw DSW
keep the ball before Adam was released to step inside
his marker again and put DSW into a 3 - 0 ahead.
After 30 minutes, Mark pulled up
injured, he played on before coming off just before the
referee had his Djimi moment. From a corner, PTW scored
a header beating Paul; it was inconceivable that the
ball was anything bit inside the area but the goal
stood. Within minutes casual defending allowed PTW a
shot at the unprotected Richards 3 - 2. DSW despite
their domination were now hanging on for three points.
The final whistle arrived with the
points secured, DSW were dominant, but you wouldn't
believe it from the scoreline.
A very fine team performance with
all players playing well through defence to attack, Adam
Dow secured the Man of the Match award for his two goals
ahead of Mark Watts who had a very solid game and a fine
individual goal.
