Match Summary -
RSK skewer DSW while Price and Watts
trade verbal blows
|
DSW team-mates Mark Watts and Philip Price clashed
throughout the match and they even continued to argue as
DSW started their next match against Fred FC.
Their incredible exchanges came after Watts realised
that despite taking the lead DSW were not going to take
any points – this represented a major cause for concern
for the statistical anoraks among the DSW supporters.
DSW having never previously lost a league match when
scoring first.
Price was the scorer after being left with a
straightforward opportunity presented to him by the ever
resourceful Stuart Williams. Price had been unlucky not
to take the lead for DSW earlier in the match.
Real Shish Kebab forced saves of varying difficulty from
the DSW keeper, Paul Richards. They eventually found
their equaliser with a long ball over the top which left
Richards exposed. The manager was happier that his
favoured two man substitution system was being used but
all-in-all DSW never really got going.
The teams changed ends at 1 – 1. It was a first half
featuring few positive contributions from joint
man-of-the-match Watts, but he was at the heart of the
build-up in the second half which led to DSW taking the
lead again in the second half. Watts worked the ball to
David Dodd whose clever flick found Stuart Williams with
the space to rifle in low at the near post.
Bob Williams, James Dow, Neal James and Mark Watts kept
the defence tight and Price and David Dodd kept linking
defence and attack. Whilst DSW didn’t look in trouble
they also rarely posed a threat. DSW consistently gave
possession away with passes carrying too much ambition
and not enough precision.
DSW were undone again by the long ball and minutes
before the final whistle were undone again by some good
football from RSK. Watts and Dow had carefully
shepherded the RSK striker to the touchline but a quick
turn and a looping shot deservedly gave RSK all three
points.
Whilst the real drama came with the clash between Watts
and Price, the real lesson was DSW play better as a
team.
Man of the Match
Mark Watts and Paul Richards
There was a football match going on amid the verbal
handbags and most of the best performers were playing
for Real Shish Kebab. For DSW Mark Watts had a claim to
the man-of-the-match title for his energetic performance
and Paul Richards was again a pick for his assured
goalkeeping.
