Match Summary - Dave Dodd fires the
missiles to sink
Showboat |
Following last weeks debacle, Dow
Schofield Watts had received the hairdryer treatment
from Phil and the management team back in the office and
were under pressure to perform.
An element of organisation combined
with the return of some holidaymakers stabilised the
ship, Andy Dodd was left out of the defence that leaked
six goals the previous week and replaced by Richard “the
axe” Harrison. Paul Richards returned in goal and James
was allowed nowhere near his own net. These changes
resulted in a clean sheet in the first half.
Showboat pressed forward from the
off and had the early shots albeit from distance and any
finding the target were comfortably handled by Paul. DSW
had to absorb some pressure and play on the break. The
first break was led by Bob Williams running down the
right, he cut in and his drive hit the left hand post
rebounding to Dave Dodd who took it down and fired past
the diving keeper.
The next break involved a ball up
to Dave to take on the last defender, this he did and
finished coolly into the bottom corner, 2-0 almost
against the run of play. Dave then repeated this trick
with the next three balls up to him 5-0. No need to vote
for man of the match today, hard on Showboat who were
working hard to create chances at the other end. The
stats man was trying to find an occasion where Dave had
finished five out of five chances before; needless to
say they came up short.
In the second half the pattern
continued, this time it was Jimmy Dow breaking from
halfway in a solo run that he finished with a quality
side foot to the corner 6-0 and his first goal since
scoring in DSW’s first ever game in the Broomfield sixes
back in May 2005.
DSW then won a free kick just
outside the Showboat area after a Pires like fall from
Bob, who seemed to be felled by a chainsaw. Apparently
the referee saw the faintest of touches from the
defender who was making Thorpedo type motions to explain
the fall.
Next came a quite bizarre piece of
refereeing, DSW were awarded a throw in that was quickly
taken by Showboat, one pass and it was in the DSW net
and the goal was given to the amazement of all on the
pitch. This rattled DSW, especially Wattsy who followed
the referee rather than the opposition round the pitch
for the next few minutes. Heads went down and players
began to chase the ball, the result a couple of quick
goals and it was 6-3. Unfortunately for Showboat they
were running out of time and another break was finished
by Neil for the 7-3 final scoreline.
A well
balanced game won on the break and played in the right
spirit.
