Match Summary - Off the back of the
Showboat |
In the first fixture of 2006 it was
DSW who clearly had the hangover starting slowly to find
themselves two nil down within the first three minutes.
The manager had his first problems of the season with
neither of the Dodd brothers recovering from their Xmas
excess in time to board the showboat.
The pre match team talk focussed on
the strong midfield presence of Showboat which had
caused DSW some problems in our previous meeting, the
warnings didn’t find their mark as an early run from
midfield and a good finish left DSW 1-0 down before they
had touched the ball. Straight from the resulting kick
off James Dow was still in generous Christmas mood
squaring the ball into the path of the Showboat striker
who ran on to deflect a shot off Neil’s shins wrong
footing Paul and finding the middle of the net. 2-0 and
DSW faced an uphill task.
From that point on DSW established
a foothold in the game and began to play the better
football with Neil James prominent in many of the moves.
Adam Dow was working hard upfront against a well
organised defence but the chances started to come. A
good move found James Dow clear in front of goal and as
the crowd expected his second of the season the shot
flew wide of the right hand upright. Bob Williams tried
a few speculative efforts from his own half but they
were more in hope than expectation, half time came with
the score 2-0.
Paul by this time had little to do
as DSW pressed forward having a series of chances to get
on the score sheet. The break through finally came mid
way through the half from a free kick won by Adam Dow.
James Dow's dummy run left a gap for Mark Watts to score
with a well struck thunderbolt to the bottom right
corner 2-1 and hope was renewed.
The pattern of missed chances
continued interspersed by an excellent save by Paul from
a good Showboat breakaway. Time was running out as Bob
controlled a looping through ball from Mark only to find
his shot come back off the upright. In the end the two
early goals proved decisive as DSW’s finishing and slow
start let them down in a good game played in the right
spirit.
